Say It Like We Say It: The Spanish Behind Our Tees

Some of our designs need a translation. Most of them don't need an explanation — if you grew up hearing these words at the kitchen table, on the block, or yelled across the house, you already get it.

For Hispanic Heritage Month, we're breaking down the Spanish and Spanglish behind four It's Envy tees. What they mean, where they come from, and who they're for.

Hola MMG

Let's start with the loud one. MMG is short for mamagüevo — and no, we're not going to translate that one for you on a family-friendly blog. Let's just say it's not a compliment.

But here's the thing: depending on who's saying it and how, MMG can be an insult, a joke, or straight-up affection between people who've known each other forever. "Hola MMG" is the greeting you only use with your people. If someone says it to you with a smile, you're in.

Googlealo

Googlealo Graphic Tee — It's Envy streetwear

Goo-guh-LE-A-loh. Take an English tech brand, run it through Spanish grammar, and you get "Google it." It's the answer for every question you're tired of answering — and a perfect example of how Spanglish works: grab whatever word fits, make it yours, move on.

Mucho Con Demasiado

Literally: "a lot with too much." It doesn't make sense in English, and that's the point. It's what you say when something is extra — the outfit, the drama, the energy, the plate your tía just handed you.

Some people hear it as a warning. We hear it as a lifestyle. Too much is never enough.

Modéfoké

You already know this one if you read where it all started. Modéfoké is the Spanglish word that launched the brand — the one our mother used to stop us in our tracks, and still does. It's the reason It's Envy talks the way it does.

Why We Put It on a Shirt

Growing up between two languages means you never fully fit in either one — so you build your own. These words are part of that. They're funny, they're raw, and they carry a whole culture in a couple of syllables.

Putting them on a tee is our way of saying: this is where we come from, and we're proud of it. If you know, you know. If you don't — googlealo.

Express yourself in what you wear.
